What is a “Spell to Write and Read” Basic Seminar?
The
two-day SWR Basic Seminar is an introduction to the “Spell to Write and
Read” program. The training will prepare the teacher to implement the
SWR program with any level student, beginning or advanced. We will
model the teaching of a beginning non-reader student, while guiding you
through the program at an introductory level. You will start building
the Primary Learning Log with Section A of the WISE List and complete
Reference Pages that will be taught at the beginning level. The
following will be presented in the seminar:
- using spelling and phonics as the foundation for teaching and writing;
- clarification of the “why,” the “when,” and the “how,” of the program;
- modeling and guiding you in your roles of both a student and a teacher-in-training;
- visual presentations and modeling of how to teach sample Reference Charts;
- instructions for using SWR with older children;
- instructions for using the Diagnostic Assessments;
- ideas for adapting to individual student’s abilities;
- tips for deterring or reversing dyslexic tendencies;
- help with lesson planning and organizing materials;
- tips for improving reading comprehension;
- hands-on practicum exercises;
- specific suggestions for home educators as well as tutors and classroom teachers;
- and much, much more…
